About this Program

Overview

The week-long Juilliard String Quartet Seminar aims to foster the artistic growth of preformed, preprofessional string quartets through intense coaching and mentoring with members of the Juilliard string quartet and other participating quartets. 2024 JSQ Seminar dates are Monday May 20 through Friday May 24, 2024. Approximately 6-8 groups will be offered admission to this program.

All four members of your String Quartet must submit separate applications. However, one application must be listed as the "primary" application.

Eligibility

In order to be admitted to the String Quartet Seminar, you must:

  • have prior experience performing as a quartet
  • be available for the entire weeklong program

The $65 application fee is nonrefundable and must be paid through your application status page upon submission of your application. Your application is not considered complete until the fee has been received.

All members of your String Quartet must submit separate applications. However, one application must be listed as the "primary" application. The applicant submitting the primary application will be responsible for the following on behalf of the entire group:

  1. Uploading the required audition material
  2. Providing the group's background information
  3. Quartet résumé
  4. Quartet principal repertoire
  5. Paying the application fee
  6. Quartet essay (collaboratively written by group)

All members of the quartet will be required to submit the following in their individual applications

  1. Background information (education, principal teachers, performance experience)
  2. Personal résumé

Your applications must be submitted online by the appropriate deadline. Please coordinate among yourselves to determine who will submit the "primary" application. There should be only one primary application per quartet. To begin, create your Juilliard Admissions Accounts, gather all of the required application materials, and follow the instructions to complete your applications.

Your Video Audition

Recordings submitted via the online application should include a total of three movements, one from each of the following periods:

  • Classical
  • Romantic
  • 20th or 21st century 

Of the required 3 submissions, at least one must be formatted as a video recording. You may choose whether or not to submit the remaining 2 submissions as audio and/or video recordings.

The Juilliard String Quartet reviews all of the submissions and selects the quartets invited to participate. 

Additional Requirements

International Students

Juilliard cannot assist international quartets in acquiring visas for the seminar.

Applicants with Disabilities
