“Kurt Weill’s Berlin”

“Kurt Weill’s Berlin” conjures up the freewheeling Weimar era with songs from Happy End, Threepenny Opera, Silbersee, and Mahagonny, while sampling the riches of Berlin’s political Kabarett. Weill and his compatriots – artists like Friedrich Hollaender, Mischa Spoliansky, Kurt Tucholsky, and Hanns Eisler – wrote songs for their own turbulent times, but the issues they confronted are still with us. Their songs are as bracing and brilliant as the day they were written.
