Maggie goofing off at the gym

This Thanksgiving, it was SO nice to stay here in NYC in the residence halls.

While many people went home for these five days off, I was here on my own enjoying some self-care time and some wonderful free time to get my to-do list completed!

My break started off on Wednesday morning with a lovely breakfast omelet followed by a practice session. I have a couple of auditions coming up, so I wanted to spend some time this break to work on my stamina and making sure I can sing the arias I am offering back-to-back without getting tired. After my practice session, I took a nice nap and then went downstairs to greet my friend who is a pianist to play through my audition pieces. This ended up turning into a three-hour jam/improvisation/songwriting session and was SO much fun!

On Thursday I enjoyed a nice sleep in session and then I decided to do some spring cleaning. After I had finished organizing, hanging, and planning my day, I decided to do some laundry, and watch some Fuller House on Netflix. (Don’t judge me. It’s a cheesy remake of a show, but I grew up with Full House so it’s a blast to the past and makes me very happy.) after this lovely Netflix session, I decided to treat myself to a lovely Thanksgiving dinner of Domino’s pizza and hot wings and it was YUMMY! Especially since I had the whole thing to myself, which I then spent an hour and a half trying to work off at the gym.

On Friday, I hosted a wonderful event in the residence hall lounge called Friendsgiving with a few fellow CAB members and RAs. It was a wonderful event—we put on a full Thanksgiving dinner for the students who stayed behind or couldn’t make it home to celebrate with family. It was very sweet and the students all had such a great time with very good food. I think I already had gained 10 pounds at this point and it was only day 3 of break!

Saturday was great because I went to visit my uncle. Then I went back to the dorms to go through my to-do list and accomplish some of my goals. In addition, I managed to complete all of the major homework assignments that are due later this month so that I don’t have to do them later on in a panicked procrastinated way. As I have said in my previous blogs, it is such a good idea to get things done immediately and completely so that you don’t end up having to deal with them later when you have other things to worry about. By doing this, my stress levels have gone down tremendously, and I've actually been able to get to sleep on time. Woohoo!

On Sunday, I spent about an hour in the morning trying to process that school was starting back up again the next day. That was difficult, but then I spent the rest of the day prepping and finishing anything else that was left to finish before starting up the next week. After everything was finished, I turned on my essential oils diffuser, put on some smooth jazz music, and relaxed comfortably with some hot Cheetos and Oreos before bed. Then I gained 15 more pounds and went to bed early. That’s what I call a successful break.

I want to wish you all a super Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you survive the next four weeks before winter break!

Much love,

Xoxo Maggie
