Postcards From Juilliard Alums

After Juilliard, I danced with Atlanta Ballet, Smuin Ballet, and then for nine years at San Francisco Ballet—which was a dream come true because of its world-class status and because it gave me the opportunity to travel the world doing what I love. It was also very special dancing with my twin brother, Matthew Stewart (BFA ’03, dance), and James Sofranko (BFA ’00, dance) at SF Ballet. I’ll never forget when Matthew and I performed the principal part in Christopher Wheeldon’s Rush and there was no one on stage but us. Then I went to Minnesota and danced with Twin Cities Ballet and, six years ago, I started the NameSong Project: I take sick children’s names, transpose the letters of their names to the piano and then compose a song using the notes of their names. I also volunteer at children’s hospitals and Make a Wish, and when not volunteering, I teach ballet at Larkin Dance Studio and Ballet Royale Minnesota.
