Dear Juilliard Community,

We are saddened and horrified by the recent rise in violence against Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders across the country. These incidents have increased greatly over the last year, grown from ignorant blame for the pandemic. And while the recent shootings in Atlanta are under investigation, we recognize that the victims included six women of Asian descent, and that the event highlights a trend of hatred that must be addressed.

Juilliard firmly condemns any violence, harassment, or other racist actions and comments directed at Asian identifying community members, including our international students from Asia. As we restate our values as a community, we continue to build our strength in support of one another. The EDIB Taskforce will be sharing opportunities for conversations within our community, and we invite you to review the list of compiled resources to learn more and to receive support if needed. Today and every day, let us hold fast to the principle of belonging which guides us in our commitment to each other.

Sincerely,

Damian Woetzel
President

Adam Meyer
Provost

Christina Salgado
Director for EDIB Initiatives
