Dear Students,

As we approach commencement and the conclusion of this academic year, we are writing with updates to the student vaccine requirements. These updates include:

  • Juilliard will now accept both FDA and WHO approved or emergency authorized vaccines.
  • New information for international students who are outside the US and not able to obtain an approved vaccine.
  • Building use and safety guidelines for summer 2021.

Please carefully read the following for full details on these changes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email [email protected].

Sincerely,

Adam Meyer
Provost

Update to list of vaccines Juilliard will accept

As of today, Juilliard will be accepting vaccines authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson (Jannsen)) and also by the World Health Organization (WHO) (currently including AstraZeneca/Oxford (AZD1222), Covishield (ChAdOx1_nCoV-19), Sinopharm (BIBP) and Sinovac (CoronaVac)). Students who receive non-FDA approved or Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) vaccines are encouraged (but not required) to obtain FDA approved or EUA vaccines upon arrival in the US.  The list of approved vaccines is subject to change, and further adjustments to the list will be communicated via email.

  • International students: We understand that some international students outside of the U.S. may not have access to accepted COVID-19 vaccines. Upon arrival, these students will need to obtain a COVID-19 PCR test, receive one dose of approved COVID-19 vaccine, and quarantine until documentation of a negative PCR test and one dose of vaccine is received by Health Services; then students may leave quarantine and begin their in-person school activities. There may be additional testing requirements until the student is fully vaccinated. If you are an international student who will need a COVID vaccine and test when you arrive, please contact Health Services at [email protected] so we can provide assistance with this process.
  • Domestic students: Domestic students are expected to be fully vaccinated prior to arrival, and will not be allowed into the Diamond Building or to move into the Residence Hall without meeting this requirement.
  • Medical and religious waivers: For information on applying for a medical or religious waiver, please contact Health Services at [email protected]

Only students fully vaccinated for COVID-19 will be allowed in the Juilliard buildings (Diamond and Rose). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) defines “fully vaccinated” as 14 days after the second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. Exceptions are international students who are receiving vaccines upon arrival and students with waivers.

All students must fill out the Student COVID Vaccine form and upload documentation confirming their COVID vaccine(s).  New students will have access to this form in July when they are granted access to Juilliard’s OKTA portal.

Building use and safety guidelines for summer 2021

During the summer, masks and social distancing will still be required in all common areas like lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, etc.

However, once students are working in a closed studio, practice room, or classroom, they may work without masks, social distancing, room rest, maximum room use, and maximum room capacities. If students choose to continue wearing masks and practicing social distancing in their working environments, they may do so.

For the summer, faculty and staff should continue to wear masks and practice social distancing. Exceptions may be made for specific faculty activities, and only if approved by the Provost’s Office.

These guidelines are subject to change with evolving health guidance.

Administrative offices will be closed from June 19-June 27. The deadline to submit your requirements for building access for the week of June 21-25 was Tuesday, June 15. Building access approvals will not be processed between June 19-27, and will resume for continuing students on Monday, June 28.
