Bio

Conrad Tao (Pre-College ’11; Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard exchange ’14) has appeared worldwide as a pianist and composer. In addition to his recital and concerto performances as a solo musician, he maintains active collaborations with the Junction Trio, his ensemble with violinist Stefan Jackiw and cellist Jay Campbell; with dancer and choreographer Caleb Teicher; and with improviser and vocalist Charmaine Lee. At the 2019 New York Dance and Performance Awards (“Bessies”), Tao received the outstanding sound design/music composition award for More Forever, his evening-length work written for and with Teicher’s company.

Tao, who was born in Urbana, Illinois, in 1994, is a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, and he was named a Gilmore Young Artist in 2012. He has studied piano with Emilio del Rosario in Chicago and Yoheved Kaplinsky in New York as well as composition with Christopher Theofanidis.
