Zachary Smith, Juilliard Double Bass Alumnus; Founder
While a double bass student at Juilliard, Zachary supported himself through performance opportunities, student work jobs and freelance computer training. By his senior year, he was itching for an experience beyond classical performance and used his computer skills to land a job in New York’s financial services industry. While working a stint at Credit Suisse First Boston in the Mergers and Acquisitions department, Zachary founded his first startup, helping businesses leverage the Internet by providing low cost, high touch Web hosting services. Later joining with a partner, Zachary grew the company, known as Voxel.net, into one of the world’s leading infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) companies, offering hosting and application delivery to 1,500 customers through its datacenter facilities in the United States, Europe, and Asia. In January 2012, Zachary sold the business to Internap Network Services Corporation (INAP), a publically traded provider of Internet delivery and colocation services.
Today, Zachary is vice president for hosting services at Internap, where he is responsible for business strategy, product development and profitability of Internap’s hosting and cloud computing offerings.
