Fabio Tavares is a Brazilian artist and movement educator who’s been obsessed with the human body in action from a very young age. He started off as a competitive gymnast before running away to join the circus, where he got his first professional job as an acrobat at the age of 15. Fabio hasn’t stopped working since. In 1999, he moved to NYC—where he’s been performing, studying and teaching ever since.

Tavares has collaborated and performed with Yvonne Meyer, chameckilerner, Miguel Gutierrez, Fischerspooner, Noemie Lafrance, Luis Lara Malvacías, Jeniffer Monson, Circus Amok, John Heginbotham, Laurie Anderson, Stanley Love, Anne Bogart and the acclaimed SITI Company to name a few. He has also danced with Elizabeth Streb and her STREB Extreme-Action company for 14 years, and was the company's Associate Artistic Director for a decade.

Tavares’ one-man show based on "The Hamletmachine" by Heiner Müller has been performed in Brazil, Europe and the U.S. in several different festivals.He is an AmSAT-certified Alexander Technique teacher (ACAT- 2014),as well as a certified Klein Technique™ teacher (Susan Klein School of Dance-2009) and a certified Zero Balancing practitioner (ZBHA- 2009). His extensive teaching experience as a movement educator spans all the way from the mid-90s, when he taught acrobatics to performers, to his current busy practice as an Alexander
Technique teacher.

As a guest artist, he has taught at numerous universities and festivals, both nationally and internationally. Mr. Tavares has taught at the BFA program in Acting for Film, TV, Commercials and Voice-Over at PACE University (2014-2017) and is currently a faculty member both at Movement Research-NYC and at The David Geffen School of Drama at Yale.
