About

Alex Gatten is excited to join Juilliard as an assistant professor of writing in the Liberal Arts department. Gatten graduated with his PhD in English from the University of Connecticut, where he also served as a visiting assistant professor and the associate director of first-year writing. Most recently at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, he applied his specializations in writing and curriculum development to his role as an instructional designer and Instructor of multimedia projects. His research and teaching focus on the intersections between embodiment and writing, with particular expertise in multimodal composition, writing pedagogy, active learning, queer theory and gender and sexuality studies, and poetry and poetics. He has published on these topics in literary journals and in collections on writing curricula and teaching and has served on a number of interdepartmental committees devoted to writing pedagogy and curriculum development. He is thrilled to continue this work with his students and colleagues at Juilliard.
