Robert Wilson was born in Gainesville, Ga., and raised in Miami. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Florida, a master’s degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Florida International University, and a doctorate in foreign language education, with a specialization in applied linguistics, from the University of Texas at Austin. Internationally, Wilson studied Mandarin at Yunnan Normal University in Kunming, Yunnan, China, and Uyghur at Xinjiang Agricultural University in Urumchi, Xinjiang, China.

Wilson has taught at several locations within the U.S., including the University of Miami, Virginia Tech, and the University of North Texas. International teaching experiences include service as a primary and secondary English education teacher trainer with the U.S. Peace Corps in the Philippines, and collegiate instruction at Guangzhou University and Xinjiang Agricultural University in China. Wilson’s research interests include language policy and planning and language and identity.

At Juilliard, Wilson is an associate professor of Liberal Arts and English as a second language, and Director of ESL and the Writing and Communication Center.
