About

Jazz guitarist Ed Cherry was born on October 12, 1954 in New Haven, Connecticut, to parents with a deep passion and love for music. He developed the same love and passion for music at an early age and was a member of the band at Amity Regional High School.

Cherry’s relentless pursuit of mastery in the field of jazz guitar led him to study at Berklee College of Music and become a part of JazzMobile, and he also studied privately with Ted Dumbar and Bruce Johnson. These experiences equipped him with a solid foundation in music theory, techniques, and improvisation, but also shaped him into a versatile musician with a deep understanding and performing various jazz styles. He has recorded with musicians including Dizzy Gillespie, John Patton, Paquito D’Rivera, Jon Faddis, Lonnie Smith, Paula West, Hamiet Bluiett, and Henry Threadgill. He’s taught at Essex Community College, Montclair State University Jazz Opportunity for Youth Program, and the New School Jazz Department. He has also conducted master classes at the Music Academy Krakow in Poland and Festi Jazz in Nice, France. Cherry performs nationally and internationally and released as a leader Are We There Yet in 2023.
