Demian Austin was born in Kentucky and is principal trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and a founding member of the MET Chamber Ensemble. He has also performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and his recordings include several movie soundtracks; Dialogues With Double Bass with Jeremy McCoy (Bridge Records); Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and Brahms’s First Symphony, conducted by Gunther Schuller (GM Recordings); and many recordings with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, including Strauss’s Tod und Verklärung. He can be heard regularly on Metropolitan Opera Radio on SiriusXM, the Saturday matinee broadcasts from the Met Opera, and on The Met: Live in HD worldwide movie simulcasts. In addition to music, Austin has a keen interest in film and has attended several intensive seminars on screenwriting. He holds a BM from Oberlin College where he studied with Raymond Premru and a MM from Juilliard where he studied with Per Brevig. At Juilliard he has been the Gordon Henderson Pre-College Trombone Faculty since 2009.
