Jason Jackson was born in San Bernardino, California, graduated from the Idyllwild Arts Academy, the Elliot Pope Preparatory High School, earned the Bachelor of Music Degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and completed his Master's Degree in Jazz and Commercial Music the Manhattan School of Music in New York. As a graduate student, he wrote an NEA grant to study privately with trombone master, Slide Hampton. He also studied privately with, JJ Johnson and Per Brevig, Jason is currently appearing every Monday night with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra at the Village Vanguard in NYC. He has toured and recorded as a featured soloist with Roy Hargrove, Ron Carter, Rufus Reid, Slide Hampton, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni Band, Jimmy Heath, Illinois Jacquet, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Charles Tolliver, Bob Mintzer, and David Leibman. Jackson has also toured with Ray Charles, Maria Schneider, McCoy Tyner, and the Mingus Big.

Mr. Jackson regularly appears on Broadway as a substitute musician, and has held the trombone chairs on Carousel, Motown Road show, Shuffle Along, Dames At Sea, Motown The Musical, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Promises Promises, Color Purple, and Wonderful Town 2003.

Mr Jackson's has released two Albums under his name, INSPIRATION 2014, and Going Home in 2001. His horn can also be heard on the cast albums of the Broadway productions in which he held a permanent chair.

Mr. Jackson joined the staff as a Professor of Jazz Trombone at the Juilliard School during the spring 2019 semester and also teaches at the City College of New York.
