Joe Magnarelli

Jazz trumpet player Joe Magnarelli has been a jazz studies faculty member since 2011. Magnarelli has toured and recorded with Lionel Hampton, Jack McDuff, Toshiko Akioshi, Ray Barretto, Tom Harrell’s big band, Harry Connick Jr., the Louis Hayes Quintet, the Marty Sheller Nonet, the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, Dado Maroni, Rosemary Clooney, the Charles Davis Quintet, Planet Jazz, Harry Whitaker, Junior Mance, John Pizzarelli, Mark Sherman, Jane Monheit, Don Sebesky, and the Vanguard Orchestra. He has recorded six albums on the Criss Cross Jazz label, one on Reservoir, and, in 2010, released My Old Flame on Give@Go Records. Following early performance experience on trumpet and guitar in church, Magnarelli attended Onondaga Community College in Syracuse and was also the pianist and choir director at a local Baptist Church. He has led master classes and seminars in European conservatories and major U.S. music schools.
