Bärli Nugent, assistant dean since 2003, has been director of chamber music since 2002, administrator of Scholastic Distinction since 2002, director of mentoring and professional mentoring since 2010, and a Pre-College faculty member since 2012. She was co-coordinator of Colloquium from 2003-2008, administrative director of mentoring from 2002-2006, director of faculty mentoring from 2006-2007, and executive director of mentoring from 2008-2009. In 2006, she created the SYLFF Juilliard/Paris Conservatoire/Vienna University Chamber Music Seminar.

Nugent is winner of the Naumburg Chamber Music Award. She is a founding member of the Aspen Wind Quintet, with which she performed more than 1,000 concerts throughout the U.S., Europe, the former Soviet Union, and North Africa. She is the creator-director of the Aspen Wind Quintet and Kids Project. Nugent has commissioned wind quintets from Paquito D’Rivera, Ronald Roseman, David Sampson, Allen Shawn, Robert Ward, and Frank Zappa.

She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, N.Y., the State Council on the Arts, Chamber Music America, the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, and the Cary Trust. Festivals where she has taught and played include Numus (Denmark), Kuhmo (Finland), and Algiers (Algeria). At the Aspen Music Festival and School, she was artist-faculty and director of chamber music. She was principal flute with the Concordia Chamber Orchestra under Marin Alsop. Nugent has taught seminars and master classes at Juilliard, Hartt, Princeton, Stanford, Chautauqua, Beijing Central Conservatory, National Conservatory of Algiers, Vilnius Conservatory, Aarhus Conservatory, Bennington Chamber Music Conference, and others. She was program director for the Emerson Quartet’s International Chamber Music Workshop. She has adjudicated for the London International String Quartet Competition, the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Concert Artists Guild, and others. Her articles have been published in Chamber Music magazine.

Nugent received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Juilliard and her doctorate from SUNY-Stony Brook. She has studied with Julius Baker, Samuel Baron, Harold Bennett, Carmine Caruso, Marcel Moyse, and Jean Whiton. She has had chamber music coachings with Claus Adam, Samuel Baron, Richard Killmer, and Ronald Roseman.

Nugent was born in Royal Oak, Mich.
