Among other big plans for the school, President Damian Woetzel announced the new JuilliART initiative as part of his convocation speech last month. JuilliART’s rotating series of art works will bring visual perspectives into the Juilliard community’s common spaces to inspire and advance creativity. “When art surrounds us,” Woetzel said, “it nourishes our spirit.” The inaugural exhibit—made possible by the generous support of the Keith Haring Foundation—features Stones, a portfolio of five lithographs, and Boxers, a steel sculpture by the American artist in the June Noble Larkin Lobby. “Haring’s artistic philosophy resonates with us as citizen artists,” Woetzel noted in his speech, quoting Haring, who declared, “Art is for everyone.”
Want a piece of the Haring action to take home? Limited edition shirts, key chains, and tote bags featuring Haring’s artwork are on sale at the Juilliard Store, which, by the way, now has extended weekday hours—until 7pm Monday through Friday.
