With nearly 90 percent of Juilliard students qualifying for financial assistance, scholarship support plays an important role in everything that happens here. We are truly grateful to everyone who takes the opportunity to make a difference in a young artist’s life by contributing to the Juilliard Scholarship Fund. It is our honor to acknowledge those who made a gift of $100,000 or more this past year to support Juilliard’s talented dancers, actors, and musicians. Thank you!

The Rhoda Lee and William David Tabachnik Scholarship in Drama was funded through a generous bequest from Robin Tabachnik, an opera singer and journalist who lived near Lincoln Center and honored her parents with her gift. The scholarship is designated for drama students born in New York City.

Joseph P. Brinton made a bequest to endow the Alice Madge Middleton Scholarship, an unrestricted fund that can be awarded to students across all divisions. A writer, historian, and lifelong supporter of the arts, Brinton honored his mother’s memory with this generous planned gift.

The Dinah Finer Rosoff Scholarship, an award for music students, was endowed through a gift from her trust.

Robin Williams (Group 6) was an annual scholarship donor for many years until his death, in 2014. His three children—Cody, Zachary, and Zelda—dedicated a portion of the proceeds from a recent art auction to permanently endow the Robin Williams Scholarship. We are grateful to his family for continuing his legacy of generosity.

Longtime faculty member Margaret Pardee Butterly (Diploma ’40, Graduate Diploma ’42) made a gift through her estate to endow the Margaret Pardee Memorial Scholarship, designated for violin and viola students. This gift was in addition to her donation of stringed instruments and bows to Juilliard in 2002.

Richard Chen, a businessman and philanthropist, endowed the Chenter Foundation Cathy and Tony Chen Scholarship for Classical Music in his parents’ names.

In the 1980s Robert Morgan notified Juilliard that he had included a scholarship gift for male voice students in his estate planning. He decided to establish the Robert A. Morgan Scholarship now so he’ll have a chance to learn about the recipients.

The Gunther and Blossom Sprecher Scholarship, designated for musicians, was endowed with a gift from the Sprecher Scholarship Trust. Gunther Sprecher had a long career as a pianist, conductor, and composer.

Louisiana native Henrie Jo Barth, known to all as Bootsie, died suddenly in December 2017. She had been a devoted supporter of Juilliard, enthusiastically present at numerous performances and especially passionate about jazz, so it was not a surprise that Bootsie made a generous provision in her will to establish the Bootsie Barth Scholarship Fund. It benefits Juilliard dance, drama, and jazz students, along with providing funding for jazz concerts featuring current students and alumni.
