Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

As we shared in June, one of our key steps in creating a more responsive institution is to enhance our reporting and resolution procedures for bias incidents. I am pleased to announce that we have named Camille Pajor to the new position of Bias Response Officer, as part of the development of an Office of Bias Response. Camille has done an outstanding job over these past two years as our Title IX Coordinator. We are appreciative that she has agreed to take on this important new responsibility, while continuing to serve in her current role. As the Bias Response Officer, Camille will be responsible for receiving all reports of bias under the school’s Nondiscrimination and Harassment Policy.

Effective immediately, all reports of discrimination, harassment or bias by students, faculty, or staff should be made directly to Camille at [email protected]. Under Camille's leadership, and in partnership with Christina Salgado, Director for EDIB Initiatives, we will develop further ways to support our anti-bias work. As part of the Office of Bias Response, this includes appointing several deputy bias reporting officers, similar to the existing Title IX reporting system at Juilliard. This model will ensure that there are multiple individuals capable of receiving reports under one centralized office that is responsible for initially communicating with the person making the report. This is a significant change that is now reflected in our policy.

In the coming months, Camille and Christina, together with key campus partners such as the Human Resources Office, Student Development, EDIB Taskforce, and the Provost’s Office, will review our current policy and make recommendations for further changes to our bias reporting process. Reports that result in a formal resolution will be handled by the Bias Response Officer in coordination with Student Development for students, Human Resources for staff, and the Provost’s office for faculty. In addition, we will work to develop clear guidelines for process and outcomes, an option to pursue an informal resolution, the creation of an online webform for reporting incidents, and in all cases followup with complainants as a matter of policy.

It is important to note that reports for all subjects, not just bias, should be brought forward directly to the school. While social media is an important communication tool, information shared on social media is not considered making a report to the School. All Juilliard report forms can be found here.

Our bias response process is in addition to the work of the EDIB Taskforce which is led by Christina as part of my office. Christina will continue to have full responsibility for EDIB training, programming, and related initiatives across the school, and will continue to work closely with Student Development on related activities and communications.

In closing, I want to thank the community members who have made reports in recent weeks, as well as those who have given their time and energy towards creating momentum for positive change in our community. We value each report and acknowledge the emotional work it places on individuals coming forward. Please expect further improvements to our processes to be announced in the coming months. We believe that these changes will move us forward in our work as we continue to place our energies on creating a more just community within Juilliard, and in the larger world.
